The behavior focus is a very important aspect in the culture of our classroom. Students tend to become very bored if there is not a level of focus in the classroom, which will then proceed to effect their learning environments. Our classroom learning theory is based on is based on Piaget, and Vygotsky. Piaget was responsible for scaffolding, and as a group we believe that the students will absorb information better when the teacher demonstrates clear instructions in the classroom. Bandura is known for the Social Learning Theory. We believe that by the teacher demonstrating and putting out positive into the classroom environment, that this will lead to a positive, uplifting behavior environment for the students.

The following are many aspects that we as teachers will take initiate to perform in order to create a behavior focus in our classroom environment.

-First and foremost, from the beginning of the school year, a set of rules and procedures will be presented to the students. These rules and procedures will remain the same throughout the entire year, allowing the students to get into a basic second nature routine. If the students fail to follow the rules of the classroom there will be a punishment. However, we will refrain as long as we can from sending the student outside of the classroom, being that sending the student to the office is not an affective approach for that students learning progress. If the students know the basic rules and procedures that are expected of them, it is more likely that the behavior environment of the classroom will run more smoothly.

-A classroom that demonstrates respect will run much more smoothly than one that does not. It is important that the students respect each other and their teacher. By having the students bond and get to know each other in the beginning of the year this can prevent major issues that we have in our school such as bullying. This will also be a more positive environment for the classroom because the students will encourage one another instead of putting each other down. In addition to this, it is important for the teacher to always be presentable and professional to his or her students. The students need to look up to their teachers, not feel as though they can take advantage.

-Another extremely important aspect in creating a positive classroom culture is communication with the student’s guardians. Every student varies in his or her home life. However, the learning does not stop in the classroom. It is important that the student’s guardians be as much involved as they can in their student’s learning process. It is the teacher’s job to make this contact and make him or herself available to the student and the student’s guardian’s needs.


-In order to keep the students interested in their learning it is very important to have a classroom with a creative physical environment. A great technique for this is creating a different theme for each year. The way this method works is the teacher would chose a theme for the year. For example, lets say the teacher chooses a pirate theme. For that entire year, the theme of the classroom would be pirates. This is a great way to get the students motivated and excited when the teacher relates his or her classroom to outside aspects that the students are interested in. The teacher can also keep the students interested by changing the set up of the classroom, or seating the students differently throughout the year. Small techniques such as these will allow the students to get out of the monotony of performing the same routine every day.



-Most of all, it is extremely important for the teacher to get to know each student well. If the student feels comfortable with the teacher rand in the classroom environment, they are more likely to come to the teacher when they have a problem, and they won’t be afraid to speak up in instances when they may not understand a topic. By creating this bond with the students, the teacher will create a safe classroom environment, a place where the students want to be and feel comfortable.
